Surface protein conformation and activity

We investigate the fundamental mechanisms governing protein-surface interactions and their practical implications in biopharmaceutical formulation stability and cell surface biology. We aim to elucidate how intrinsic surface properties, including chemistry, hydrophobicity and stiffness, influence the structural conformation of adsorbed proteins and their subsequent behavior in solution. Our research also focuses on mitigating surface-induced protein denaturation, a critical factor contributing to protein aggregation and loss of function. To achieve this, we are actively exploring strategies such as surface engineering through chemical modifications and biomimetic approaches by the use of chaperone proteins to prevent the early stages of denaturation.
