The team focuses on the development of sustainable carbon-based and hybrid materials with precisely controlled physicochemical characteristics, including porosity, morphology, surface chemistry and structure. These features are critical for a wide range of applications. To achieve this, the team develops innovative and environmentally friendly synthesis approaches that use bio-sourced precursors, soft chemistry methods and fewer synthesis steps. A deep understanding of the formation mechanisms of these materials is central to the research, enabling the targeted tuning of their properties for specific functions.
Research Highlights
Research in this theme explores fundamental and applied aspects of sustainable carbon materials. Key activities include:
- Design and synthesis of eco-designed carbon and hybrid materials with tailored properties.
- Utilization of bio-sourced precursors and soft chemistry techniques to reduce environmental impact and processing complexity.
- Understanding formation mechanisms to control critical physicochemical features.
